VINCENT J. MILES was born and raised in Liverpool, England. As a boy he attended St. Joseph’s College, Upholland, the Catholic minor seminary (priest-training school) for the Archdiocese of Liverpool. At the age of eighteen he changed direction, leaving the seminary to train as a scientist, earning a B.Sc. in biochemistry and a Ph.D. in biochemical embryology from University College London. After a short stint in a government lab as a forensic scientist he joined the nascent biotechnology industry, progressing over time to senior positions in R&D, marketing and business development. During this progression he moved to the US, where he has lived since 1984. In 2007 he joined a life-science venture capital firm in Boston, where he leads and manages investments in young privately-held biotech companies. In 2023 Miles was elected an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in recognition of the published works described on this website.
